Anhui Transportation - Getting to Anhui and moving around.Hefei as the Capital of Anhui Nestled in the heart of the province Luogang airport is about 7kin due south of the city, and connected by an airport bus to the CAAC office on Huizhou Lu, whose entrance doubles asa florist’s (daily 8am-10pm; 0551/2886626, 2885553). The train station is 3km northeast of the centre at the end of Shengli Lu - bus #119 runs down Shengli Lu and into town along Changjiang Lu - with lines servicing Bozhou, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen and Beijing. Aside from the station, you can also buy train tickets at a booth on Huizhou Lu, just south of the Changjiang Lu intersection. Hefei’s main bus station, on Minguang Lu, handles traffic to all over Anhui and to adjacent provincial capitals, though there are just as many services fi’mn the chaotic clutch of minibus depots nearby on Shengli Lu leaving, you’ll have to hunt around stations for the right vehicle. Here, superlative mountain landscapes at Huang Shan and the collection of Buddhist temples at Jiuhua Shan have been pulling in droves of sightseers for centuries, and there’s a strong cultural tradition stamped on the area, with a substantial amount of antique rural architecture surviving intact around Tunxi. Also here is a river- side reserve near Xuancheng, protecting the Chinese alligator, one ofthe World’s most endangered animals, though another local rarity, the Yangzi river dolphin, is heading rapidly towards extiuction.
