Changbaishan has long been known across China for its countless local specialties. Thanks to its unsullied environs and unique climate, almost everything here seems to be more or less related to herbal medicine. The most noteworthy among them is the three new treasures of Dongbei, the red-spotted stonecrop, the bulaocao and the forest frog.

You may also purchase some exotic-looking glossy ganoderma, a fungus whose spore is believed to do much good to patients with cancer. Chinese travelers are also fond of buying wild vegetables here, a change from their usual fatty diet. Wine buffs will be surprised, although perhaps not overly impressed by the Tonghua wine. It will, at the very least, keep you warm in the cold Changbaishan winter months.
