For eating, wander the area south of the Shangri-La and Xi’an Dalu. Directly across from the hotel, Weiduoqian Lamian has excellent hand-pulled noodles. Consider, too, Xiangyangtun, a branch of the Belling Cultural Revolution nose- talkie-cuisine franchise.
From the Shangri-La, walk south on Tongzhi lie and up’s left at Dong Chaoyang Lu; the restaurant is on the left-hand side, at no. 3.Try the fried scorpions and battered leaves. There’s a KFC at the intersection 0f Chongqing Lu and Rennin Dajie, and, for nightlife, a Bowling Beer House on the western edge of Culture Square, on Xi Minzhu Dajie.
