Accommodation There arc’ plenty of hotels in Chengde town itself; pins a couple of expensive places inside Bishu Shanzhuang, although none of them are worth getting excited about. Rates are highly negotiable; the price codes below are based on the peak summer season and weekends. At other times you can get discounts 0fup to two-thirds.

Chengde Binguan 33 Nanyingzi Dajie 0314/2023157, 2021341. Threadbare and
gloomy, this place is only worth it if you can get one of their cheap doubles, which they would
rather not tell you about.
Chengde Dasha Chezhan Lu 80314/2088808, 2024319. This fifteen-storey block is convenient for the station, but in an uninteresting area of town.
Huilong Chezhan Lu 0314/2085369, ~2082404. Opposite the Chen#de Dash& and the better of the two. Twelve storeys high, with a grand lobby, but the rooms are rather small and merely adequate.
Shanzhuang 127 Lizhengmen Lu 0314/2023501. This grand, well-located complex, with huge moms, high ceilings and a cavernous, gleaming lobby, is good value, and with a wide range of moms it’s Chengde’s best bet for most budgets. The large rooms in the main building are nicer but a little more expensive than those in the ugly building round the back, Buses #2 or #3 from the train station will get you here. Dormbeds ~40, 0
Xinhua 4 Xinhua Bei Lu 0314/2063181. Simple, standard, cheapish accommodation, in a rather ugly building that’s showing its age. However, it has a good restaurant specializing in Shandong food. They have dorms, but probably won’t let you

Yiwanglou Inside Bishu Shanzhuang, just to the left of the front entrance 0314/2023528. A well-run three-star hotel in a pleasing imitation Qing style building.
Yunshan 6 Naoyuan Dong Lu 0314/2024551. This modern block is the most luxurious place to stay in town, and is popular with tour groups. The second-floor restaurant is good, the plushest in town, and not too expensive, Bus #9 from the train station passes the door, or it’s a 10min walk.
