Most of the hotels in Chengde are neither cheap, nor of particularly good standards. If money is of no object, however, it is still possible to stay in comfort and style, almost of imperial standards (for China). The hotels are either situated in the town or within the Imperial Summer Villa, the latter being a nicer option, although you will pay for this. For budget travellers, there are a few places that may put you up, but not often willingly.
Hotel touts may approach you for accommodation. If you establish prices and location beforehand, they can be useful in ferrying you to the hotel “free” of charge. Even though you check in at 5 a.m., most hotels will let you stay until noon the next day for one night’s fare.
