Jin Nong (金農) (1687-1764) was born in Hangzhou, but became perhaps the most famous of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. Despite that he started painting relatively late in life, in his fifties, after he failed the examinations and his wife died. He lived a poor life, but became noted for his paintings of plum blossoms. He also did other plants, birds, landscapes, and people.
He also had a reputation as a calligrapher creating a style he called “lacquer calligraphy.”
