Jim’s Peace Guesthouse
Bo’ai Lu. Thoroughly likeable owner, and new comfortable rooms above one of the town’s best restaurants.
Jinhua Binguan
Corner of Fuxing Lu and Huguo LU 0872/2673343, 2673846. Dali’s upmarket, air. conditioned option and not bad value, right in the town centre and complete with an art gallery.
Tiling makes for cold rooms in winter, however Dorm beds RMB25.
Old Dali Inn
(No, 5 Guesthouse) Bo’ai Lu 0872/2670382. Indifferent staff and basic toilets compensated for by very h ot, powerful showers, and a courtyard surrounded by two tiers of dusty wooden “traditional Bai” rooms - check a few out, as some are better than others. Don’t bother with the restaurant. Dorm beds RMB10 and RMB15.
Red Camellia
(No. 4 Guesthouse) Western end of Huguo Lu. Dreary, basic dorms and primitive doubles. A nice garden but lazy staff and another indifferent restaurant. Dorm beds RMB10 and RMB15.
Xingyue
(Mosque) Bo’ai Lu. You can’t miss the minarets at the corners of this interesting variation on local options. There’s a decent Muslim restaurant here, too. Rooms have TV but shared bath- rooms and are spartan. Dorm beds RMB15.
