guangdong-opera-museumLocated inside Lord Huang’s Ancestral Temple, a key unit of preservation of cultural relics in Guangdong, in Chancheng District in Foshan, the Guangdong Opera Museum has a total area of 3,000 square meters. Originally, it was Foshan Opera Museum and since the stablishment of it has been welcomed by the visitors chinese and abroad.

As the world’s first ever Guangdong opera museum, it has attracted attention from both amateurs and professionals alike. The museum formally hung out its shingle as the “Guangdong Opera Museum” on April 2nd, 2004. This was a key part of the Opera’s application for inclusion on the UNESCO World Culture Heritage list.

The museum exhibits the history of the Guangdong opera, antique costumes and props as well as profiles of famous Guangdong opera artists through the ages. 2,000 odd opera antiques and information from fans of the opera and veterans the world over were collected including librettos, wooden clappers, playbills, instruments, painting and calligraphies and stage photos, revealing the rich connotation and distinctive artistic charm of Guangdong opera culture.
