Over time, the movements of the earth’s crust caused the collapse of the underground limestone caves in the area, creating a bigger, deeper canyon, Where Nanjiang River runs through Kaiyang County, 54 km north of Guiyang, its rapids run through the mountains along this canyon.
| Today the Kaiyang Canyon is 40 km long, with a maximum depth of 320 meters, An 18.5km section of the Canyon Park is now open to the public.
