In Wenchang, the city closest to Haikou, you’ll find the Dongjiao Coconut Forest, a great place to get some seafood and enjoy some coconut delicacies. Also, in the Wenchang area are the Wenchang Confucius Temple and Copper Drum Mountain, very interesting cultural sites steeped in legend and tradition.

Sight Overview of Hainan West Coast
In western Hainan, there are vast tracts of forest and long mountain ridges. In particular, the rainforests of western Hainan are filled with mysterious new plants and rare animals, attracting travelers with their own special natural splendor.
Jianfeng Ridge, a national natural protection zone, is home to a large forest of ancient trees, on which strangely shaped roots and twining vines grow into a web-like screen. Also, Bawang Ridge also offers great opportunities to get back to nature in a nature reserve. Here, you’ll find a marvelous wild litchi orchard with ancient litchi trees.
Bays along the western coast, such as Qizi Bay, named after a legend telling that the stones on the beach were originally chess pieces strewn there by immortals. There are jagged rocks of grotesque shapes, some of which lofty and steep. Also, don’t miss the beaches along Qizi Bay.
The (Rezuo Liangyuan) Botanical Gardens is an great place to visit to enjoy the special plant life of the nearby nature reserves. Plants from more than 40 countries and areas are gathered here, many of which are rare species.
Sight Overview of Hainan Highlands
The highlands, spread across the central belt of Hainan island are areas of great natural beauty, with huge towering mountains, breathtaking waterfalls and tiny Li and Miao minority villages dotted about the place all making this an unspoiled and surprisingly
unvisited spot on the tropical island.
Tongzha City is the center of the area, a pleasant city to wander and sample some of the great local specialty dishes. Nearby are two gargantuan mountains, Five Fingers Mountain and Seven Fingers Mountain. A climb up one of these steep hills, while not for the faint hearted, provides unrivalled views across the surrounding countryside.
Qiongzhong and Baisha are the other two sizeable towns in this area. Qionzhong is a lively place with a great market. The spectacular Baihua waterfall can also be seen en route to here from Tongzha. Baisha, is a fairly scruffy little place but the surrounding countryside offers some of the island’s most natural and unspoiled scenery including rambling mountain ranges and rare wildlife.
Between all these towns, are a smattering of Li and Miao minority villages that are far more authentic than the ones actually in Tongzha itself.
