Monkey Island (Nanwan Hudao) is a narrow peninsula with no land access, where a nature reserve for mmonkey islandonkeys has been established. The peninsula is located 5km south of Lingshui County Town. Twenty one groups of Guangxi monkeys inhabit the area, numbering as many as 1,000 in all. Beyond the monkeys as the dominant species, the peninsula is also home to 400 species of tropical plants and 100 species of animals. The nature reserve is under state protection for research purposes, but is also open to tourists.

The best time to visit the peninsula is feeding time, when the reserve’s staff call the monkeys out. The monkeys, (previously sleeping or hiding in the trees), suddenly emerge from all directions, yelling, jumping and fighting for a better position next to the reserve warden.

When on Monkey Island, it is best to remember not to tease the monkeys with food, as they can get violent and there may be more of them then there are of you.

How to get there: Take a minibus from Lingshui County town to Xincun. From here there are ferries to and from the park. The newly built over-sea cable car brings you directly to the park entrance from Xincun.
Cost: RMB45 (by ferry ,return ferry included) or RMB 55(by cable, return cable-car ticket).
