Sight Overview

This area, close to the northern reaches of the Bohai Gulf, is comprised of a city, Qinhuangdao, and two towns, Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan. Although Qinhuangdao is large and has a number of good hotels, the beach resort of Beidaihe and the sights of Shanhaiguan are more interesting destinations.

Qinhuangdao Tourist AttractionsBeidaihe is best known as the summer resort for late nineteenth century foreigners and for the high level cadres of the communist party in the 1970s. The area is good for its beaches, clean air and fun atmosphere. Shanhaiguan is an old fortification town, guarding the eastern end of the Great Wall from the wilderness of Manchuria and Mongolia, to the east and north. Sights here are probably the most interesting and include the Old Dragon Head, where the Great Wall reaches the sea, the Mengjiangnu Temple, where one of China’s most legendary heroines is commemorated, and the pretty rural areas around Yansai Lake.
