Hongkong Deep Water Bay

Two bays with names ringing of adventure on the high seas, Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay, line the coast east of Ocean Park. Unfortunately the water in this area can be quite polluted, while on summer weekends and public ho1idays the beaches are jam packed with tens of thousands of people. Of all thebays on the

south coast, Repulse Bay is the most popular, partly because it contains a number of shops and restaurant, but also because of its Tin Hau Temple which has a longevity bridge, the crossing of which is said to add three days to your life. The backdrop to Repulse Bay is slightly bizarre with an enormous, garish tower silhouetted against verdant hills. In front of it is what remains of the Repulse Bay Hotel. Sadly this historic hotel was torn down in the 1980s; what carries the name now is in fact a restaurant and shopping complex. South of Repulse Bay, you’ll find Middle Bay and South Bay, fifteen and thirty minutes farther along the coast. These offer more secluded but narrowerbeaches. You can reach Repulse Bay on buses #6, #61 or #260 from Exchange Square, in Central. Between Aberdeen (to the west) and Stanley (to the east) there are frequent buses that pass all of the bays mentioned above; sit on the right hand side of the upper deck for an exhilarating ride along the twishng roads.
