Suzhou and Yangzhou are ancient cities famous throughout China for their gardens and silk production, while Wuxi attracts thousands of tourists to the shores of Tai Hu for its scenery, fruit trees and fish, and for the caves of Yixing across the lake. | |
Jiangsu Transportation - Getting to Jiangsu and moving around. |

| Jiangsu Province is one of China’s developed provinces and areas with developed communications. Highway and waterway transportation is very convenient. The Yangtze River flows through the whole province from west to east, and the Great Canal flowing north to south links up various rives, canals and lakes, so that inland waterways extend in all directions. Water transport volume amounts to two-thirds of the total provincial transport volume. Nanjing, Zhenjing, Yangzhou and Nantong are not only important ports of inland rivers but also major ports for foreign trade in the Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River. Lianyungang in North Jiangsu is the starting point of the eastern end of the railway passing through the European continent and the Asian continent, and it is also one of the provincial ports for foreign trade along the coast.
Nanjing and Xuzhou are the pivot of railway communication. Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Lanzhou-Lianyungang Railway and Nanjing-Tongling Railway all pass through Nanjing or Xuzhou or both. Highway communication has developed very quickly, especially in North Jiangsu and hilly areas. Highways are good in quality. Bus service is available in each county. Between towns and villages run short-distance traffic vehicles. With Nanjing as the center, airlines extend to Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Guanzhou, Guilin, Changsha, Chengdu, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Guizhou and other places. There is also a local airline from Nanjing to Yancheng. Major Cities of Jiangsu Province are: Suzhou ,Nanjing,Yangzhou,Xuzhou and Nantong |
