Jiayuguan is living up to its fame as not the greatest of places for beauty or enjoyment, by providing not the greatest selection of hotels. There are a few half decent upper end ones that can be tried, however, and budget travelers will not be disappointed in terms of price.
Of the best in town are the Jiayuguan and the Great Wall Hotels whose standard rooms range between RMB250-400. The Jiayuguan Hotel (Jiayuguan binguan) is located in the very center of town, on the traffic circle. It provides standard doubles and dorm beds, and hotel facilities include a branch of CITS and a bike rental service. The Great Wall Hotel (Changcheng binguan) is a three star with good facilities and service.
For budget travelers, the Yinbin Hotel (Yinbin dasha) is the best option. The hotel enjoys a good location, just beside the bus station, and is surrounded by a group of restaurants. The Wumao Hotel (622-7514) provides nice and clean rooms and dorms. Another hotel worth checking out is the Youth Hotel (622-4671), located on Jianshe xilu, which is designed in an incongruous European Castle style. Dorm beds are about RMB35 per person and standard rooms around RMB150.
The Great Wall Hotel (Changcheng binguan) is located about 1km from the railway station and 12km from the airport. This is definitely the most upmarket deal in town, constructed in 1990/91 in a kind of fort like style. It is on the edge of town, with some good views of the nearby Qilian mountains, and in easy reach of the Great Wall Museum.
The Jiayuguan Hotel (Jiayuguan binguan) enjoys a good location, about 5km from the railway station and 13km from the airport. This three star hotel boasts a total of 144 rooms and suites. All of them are nicely decorated and equipped with air-conditioning, TVs, IDD telephones and refrigerators.
