Sight Overview
It is said that “the springs of Ji’nan are the finest under heaven.” There are 72 well known springs, and in total more than 100, scattered around the city here, including the famous four springs; Baotou Spring, Black Tiger Spring, the Pearl Spring and the Five Dragon Spring.
The traditional picture of Ji’nan is of “half a city of lake, the whole in the shade of mountains”. Of the three famous tourist attractions in Ji’nan, the wide Daming Lake is fed by many springs. Lotus blossoms above the water while green willows lend shade to the shore. The water of nearby Baotu Spring gushes from three underground water-eroded caves so that in the rainy season the sound of the gurgling water shakes Daming Lake and moisture rises like gathering clouds.
The Thousand Buddha Mountain is a famous Buddhist resort, formerly named Lishan Mountain. Legend has it that Yu, an emperor over 4,000 years ago, was raised on Lishan Mountain. Climbing upon the Thousand Buddha Mountain, you get a panoramic view of the Spring City of Ji’nan with the bright Daming Lake and strip-like Yellow River spreading out before you.
Besides these main attractions Ji’nan has little more to offer. The lofty Taishan Mountain to the south and the lost mountains and Yellow River are interesting and pretty spots. There are also famous Buddhist resorts around here, such as the Xingguo Temple, the Sirang Temple and the Lingyan Temple, well known throughout China. Being an ancient cultural city, this is also home to a few famous literary and historical figures in Chinese history.
