The city is regarded in archaeology and tourism “a rare complete ancient city in south China”. Jingzhou was made famous by Three Kingdom battles.

In ancient times, Jingzhou was a major centre governing 9 divisions. It was the capital of the Chu State during the Spring and Autumn period (722-481 BC) and again for several regional states during the Southern and Northern dynasties and the Five dynasty.
Jingzhou’s old town is encircled by a wall built by General Guanyu when he defended Jingzhou during the Three Kingdom period (220-280AD). The walls are 10 km long, 10 m thick, and have 6 gates and a moat.

The national economy of Jingzhou is developing in every aspect and the city has great comprehensive economic strength. The main agricultural and sideline products grown in Jingzhou play an important part in Hubei Province and China. The industry in Jingzhou has begun to take shape.
