The local Tourism Administrative Bureau has recently prohibited tourists from staying inside the Jiuzhaigou park according to a policy made by the State Council for the protection of Jiuzhaigou’s natural environment. Tourists are now only permitted to stay outside the park.
On the way from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou, (which usually takes 12 hours or even longer when road conditions are poor), it is nice to stop off in Songpan for a brief visit to the grassland and an overnight stay. The best choice for accommodation here is the Songpan Huanglong Hotel.
Lodging conditions in Jiuzhaigou proper are variable and have been very poor in the past. Things are now changing, due to increased tourism efforts and there are now a few good options. Three star hotels are the top hotels in Jiuzhaigou. Among these, the Jiulong Hotel and Jiuzhaigou Hotel are good choices. There are a few private owned hotels but facilities and standards tend to be limited. The best option for those on a budget is the two star state-owned Swan Hotel , a pleasant place providing inexpensive accommodation.
