Kaifeng was the capital among the seven dynasties of China’s history , the Northern Song (960-1127 AD) was the most prosperous and lasted the longest. This Dynasty was also one of the most fruitful eras in China’s history for cultural and scientific achievements, so that today evidence of the glorified Song culture is the dominating scene in Kaifeng.

Kaifeng Tourist AttractionsThe Iron Pagoda of the Song Dynasty, at the northeastern corner of the old city, has become the landmark of Kaifeng and is a must for travelers here. The Xiangguo Temple, although not originally a Song Temple, gained its fame during the dynasty, being considered a national Temple by the royal family of the time. An Imperial Street has also been rebuilt, after the original format of the Song dynasty, but instead of being for the emperor’s private use, it is now a haven for crowds of shoppers.

The city of this time was not only famed as a capital, but also part of the regular trading route, with links to the Middle East. This route has highly influenced the culture and population of the new town, so that nowadays it has plenty of living and dead throwbacks to the past, including a large Jewish population, an ancient Guild Hall and the minimal remains of the Jewish Synagogue scattered around.
