Hotan was called “Udun” in ancient times, situated at the southern part of Taklimakan desert ,northern part of karakurum mountains , in an important part of silk road , the place wich gathered eastern and western culture , also starting point of jade road .Buddhism entered Hotan in earliest china ,and was named “small India” ,famous monk of china ,among them, zhou shixing ,Faxian ,Songyun ,Xuanzang had come to Hotan , and studied about Buddhism .the culture of Buddhism of sculpture ,painting of art deeply affected to Eastern civilization.

By the passing of time , we thank for the Taklimakan Desert which is guarding the relic sites. the precious cultural relics and the history made us to know the disappeared ancient civilization . the cultural relic sites of Niya ancient ruins ,Andir ancient ruins ,Yumulakkum ancient ruins , Dandan Oyluk ancient ruins and Rewak Buddha Temple,etc. Remind us ancient civilization. If you don’t come to Hotan ,you don’t know mystery of ancient Xinjiang , If you don’t visit Hotan museum ,you will not be able to feel glory of ancient civilization of Udun.
