bostan lakeBostan Lake is called Bagrax, Baghrash Kol in Mongol and Uighur language respectively. Other names include Xihai, Yanzhejinghai, Dunhongpuhai in Han dynasty and Beiwei dynasty.

Bostan Lake is the biggest inland fresh water lake in China. When the water level is 1,048 meters, the lake is 992.2 square kilometers around, 62.8 kilometers long and 15.8 kilometers wide. The maximum depth and width reach 16.5 meters and 35.2 kilometers respectively. The mean depth is 8.08 meters.

With flourishing reed and wild lotus, Bostan Lake is the paradise for the waterfall. Summer sees the lush grass, fall the reed catkins. The fish boats shuttle back and forth and the birds fly. All are just the same as the south of China. The lake turns to be the natural skating place in winter.

Kaidu River, Qingshui River, Huangshui and Wushitala River all contribute into Bostan Lake that also is the source of the Peacock River. The Peacock River flows into Lopnur after running through Korla and Weili County. Bosten Lake is the important fishery base in Xinjiang, and the ideal place to raise the mustrat. Mustrat’s fur is soft and beautiful, enjoying the fame of “the soft gold” in the international market.
