Leshan Tourist AttractionsLeshan’s most famous sight is the Grand Buddha Statue situated in the north of the city. The statue, an impressive project, is probably the most imposing and unimaginable work of art in China! The 71m tall Grand Buddha is carved out of a whole natural mountain and sheer cliff face! Without any modern tools and techniques, the 1300-year-old project took the whole life of its sponsor and his successors to complete. Backed by beautiful mountains, the Buddha is situated on the cross-section of the Mingjiang River and the Daduhe River, a location traditionally considered lucky according to both Feng Shui principles and Buddhist beliefs.

Leshan city enjoys a history of 3000 years and boasts numerous Buddhist related sites, among the most impressive is Lingyun Mountain on which Dafo Temple (Grand Buddha Temple) sits. Wuyou Temple to the east of the Grand Buddha is also an important site affording spectacular views too. The Thousand Buddha cliffs about 2km from the center of town contain over 2400 Buddhist statues and are an impressive relic in themselves. A trip to Leshan is an exciting pilgrimage tour to the heart of a rich heritage of Buddhist culture.

Other sites to see include the Mahaoya Tomb Museum in which Chinese burial culture is detailed and a new site of an assembled collection of over 3000 Buddhist statues from all over Asia known as the Oriental Buddha Park.
