Macau RestaurantsBolo de Arroz Travessa de Sao Domingos 11. Nnar the Largo do Senado, this is a great place for Portuguese pastries and some of the best coffee in town.

Clube Militar Avenida de Praia Grande 795 714 O09, Although this is a private club, the dining room is open to the public, A groat way to see inside one of Macau’s colonial buildings - which has been beautifully restored - although the food doesn’t match the surroundings.

Fernando Hac Sa Beach 882 531. Net far from the bus step. Advance booking recommended, and a must at weekends.

Lord Stew’s Bakery Coloane Town Square. One of the best places to eat Macau’s creamy Portuguese egg tarts (natas).

Bars and clubs

Crazy Paris Show Mona Lisa Hall, Hotel Lisboa, Avenida da Amizade 577 666. Something of a Macau institution now, this vaguely naughty cabaret-style show of scantily clad dancing girls can be seen nightly at 8pm and 9.3Opm (also 11 pm Sat; 250ptca).

Embassy Bar Mandarin Hotel, Avenida da Amizade, Outer Harbour 567 888. Rather snazzy indeed, featuring cocktails and live bands, and good value at 30ptca to enter.

Talkers Rua de Pedro Coutinho 104. A little south of Avenida do Coronel Mesquita, just west of the Kun lam Temple, are several bars and pubs that make up most of Macau’s nightlife. Talkers tends to get very busy very late.
