The Pousada de Sao Tiago (Shengdiyage jiudian) is a charming and peaceful hotel in a converted fortress built by the Portuguese in the seventeenth century to defend Macau against hostile European nations and local pirates. One hundred years later the Chapel of St James was built within the hotel walls. Legend has it that the ghost of St. James patrols the chapel and ramparts even today!

Today, much of the fortress and the Chapel have been preserved as part of the Pousada de Sao Tiago. This is a Portuguese Inn with all of the comfort and elegance of a European Hotel.

Some of the hotel rooms have original furniture imported from Portugal and afford great views over the harbor. Dining in the hotel restaurant is a wonderful and enjoyable experience and the fine dishes served by the chef are a real treat.

For those who like to soak up the sun, there is an outdoor swimming pool. You can also walk along the waterfront from the hotel to the center of town. The hotel also provides free transfer from the ferry.

This magnificent building, steeped in history, is a perfect place for those seeking comfort and luxury. This is a wonderfully romantic hotel offering all the standards and facilities of a big international hotel, but in a unique and charming setting.
