The main exhibit relates the five-thousand-year history of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The exhibits include jade, lacquer work, bronzes, chinaware, ancient vehicles, silks, textiles, and so on. Of the stored items the number of china items of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) is the largest. The cultural relics excavated from Yin ruins are the most valuable. In addition paintings and calligraphy constitute an important part of the collections of Nanjing Museum.
