Yangtze River Bridge was finished in 1968. It is like a dragon flying across the mighty Yangtze River.
It is a double-deck and double-service bridge built completely without external assistance. A highway bridge on the upper floor is 4,589 meters (about 3 miles) long, 15 meters (about 16 yards) wide. Four large cars can run shoulder to shoulder on this highway. In addition there is a more than 2-mete (about 2 yards) wide footway on both sides of the highway. A railway bridge on the lower floor is 6,772 meters (about 4 miles) long, 14 meters (about 15 yards) wide. This railway is double-tracked, which means that two trains can run in opposite directions at the same time.
There are 200 cast iron embossments on the balusters on each side of the main span of the highway bridge. 150 pairs of elegant and pure white magnolia-flower-shape street lamps stand side by side. At nightfall these street lamps shine brightly. The mighty bridge becomes the earthly Milky Way.
