Zijinshan Observatory (Mt. Zijin Observatory) was built according to the last wish of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The importance of this observatory is that it is the first one designed by Chinese people, combining the characteristics of both the east and the west. Zijinshan Observatory once was called the Best in East Asia due to its superior facilities. Zijinshan Observatory is not only the cradle of Chinese modern astronomy but also an exhibition hall showing the splendid fruit of ancient Chinese astronomy. There are still replicas of astronomical apparatuses of the Ming (1368-1644) and the Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
