Buses tenmnate outside the tiny train station in the north of town, which is als0 where you can catch a minibus to Taiyuan. En route to Xl’an, you can break your journey in Pingyao for the day and then pick up one of the two evening trains that pass through on their way south. The ticket office at the sta- tion opens thirty minutes before the train’s arrival. Note that the only tickets on sale here are for unallocated hard seats; once on the train, however, you should be able to upgrade (less likely at weekends). Luggage canbe left behind the counter at the station shop.
