Xi’an is firmly on the tourist itinerary, and hotels abound. The train-station touts offering budget rooms are best avoided, particularly as they may bring you to a place that doesn’t take foreigners; if you do decide to go with them, be sure to bargain. There’s no shortage of international luxury hotels, with glossy five-star structures both inside and outside the city walls. Most sights are located around the city centre so, if your budget will stretch to it, it’s much more convenient and atmospheric to stay inside the walls, in the thick of things. The mid-range category is also well catered for within the city walls, too.
