shenyang tourist attractionsModern Shenyang is neither beautiful nor interesting, but it has become a popular tourist destination for its historic sights dating back to the time when Shenyang was the capital of the Manchu Houjin Dynasty (1616-1644).

The first place to visit in Shenyang is the grandiose Imperial Palace, a complex similar to the Forbidden City in Beijing, contains more than 300 buildings in distinctive Manchu style. There are also two tree-covered imperial tombs, East Tomb and North Tomb, where Nurhachi and Huangtaiji (father and son), the two forerunners of the Qing Dynasty, were buried. Zhongshan Square in the city centre, where the landmark statue of Mao Zedong stands, is the most famous popular place for local people to spend their leisure time.
