A taxi is a good means of going somewhere. The flagfall price is only RMB7 and RMB1.5 per kilometre after that. An average ride can rarely exceed RMB15.The taxi industry develops fast in Shenyang, and all taxi cars have been mainly unified to Santana and Jetta since 1999. The starting price of taxi is RMB8 within 3 kilometers, after 3 kilometers RMB1.67 per/km. Beyond 10 kilometers there will be an extra charge of returning cost of RMB0.835 per/km.
Despite the fistfight at the airport (see separate review), Shenyang taxi drivers are remarkably friendly, and rather astonishingly, seem to know their way around the city. Taxis are generally clean and air-conditioned (unlike the decrepit wrecks prowling the streets of Chongqing), and the driving is restrained. Possibly the best taxis in China, and that includes the Passat and Mercedes taxis in Hangzhou - they would be good if they didn’t try to rip off passengers on every single journey to and from the airport.
