Shenzhen’s history traces back to six thousands years.

Archaeologists found in in recent years that Shenzhen has a long history that goes back to 6000 years. Pottery items found at the relics of Da Huang Sha and Da Mei Sha Dene indicates that in as early as the neolithic period, there were human living on this beautiful land.

Shenzhen HistoryHistorical sites identified so far include 103 culture relics, 234 ancient tombs, 68 archaic and memorial structures, and about 100 other historical sites.

According to historic documents, Shenzhen’s history consists of 4 periods.

1. Attachment Period (before being designated as a independent Town) (BC - 1573)

2. Town Establishment Period (1573 - 1841)

3. Border Division Period (1842 - 1898)

4. City Establishment Period (1979)

Shenzhen now consists of 6 districts, 23 street offices, and 19 towns, employing a 3 level administrative structure.

The six districts are Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Bao’an, Longgang, and Yantian.
