There are numerous budget hotels in Jiuzhaigou, but most are privately owned and the local tourist administration do not allow foreigners to stay in many of these places. Although many backpackers still manage to stay in cheap hostels without too much trouble, basic safety and sanitary standards are pretty limited.

The Swan Hotel(Tian Er Binguan) is an exception. This state-owned hotel is realtively inexpensive but the rooms are secure and clean. The hotel is recommended by the local Tourist Bureau as the best budget hotel in the area. A bed in a triple room here with public bath costs RMB70 or a bed in standard triple room is RMB100.

The hotel is ideally located 1km from the entrance to Jiuzhaigou Park. With numerous restaurants nearby, this is quite a convenient location. Although the hotel claims to have been built according to international two star standards,standard rooms do not have air-conditioning and telephones. But the beds and bathrooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel restaurant serves nice local food.
