On Yingze Dajie, try Hotpot City at no. 16, which looks more expensive than it is-a meal for two here should come to no naore than ~50. It’s just west 0fthe train station on the south side of the road, and is easily identifiable by its steamed-up windows. The noodle restaurant at no. 73 is very popular and unusual for serving no rice. Food comes in deep bowls, and last to arrive is a bowl of noodles which you add to the remains of your other dishes. Best of tile hotel restaurants is the first-floor place in the west wing of the Yirgze Binguan, which is not too expensive (about RMB50 per person). The atmosphere is unintimidating and there arc cosy tables and friendly, attentive staff. If mommy isn’t a problem, the upmarket Chinese or Western restaurants at the Shanxi Grand are worth a try - expect to pay around RMB80 per person. As ever, there are branches of McDonald5 and KFC, respectively onWnyi Square and on the western section of Yingze Dajie.
