CITS (0995/8521352) is in the Oasis Hotel; or try the independent John,s’ Information Cafe (johncafehotmail.com) outside the Turpan Guesthouse. “John” is a Chinese entrepreneur who has made a fortune catering to budget travellers - he also has branches of his cafe in Kashgar, Urumqi, and Dunhuang. There’s a rumour that he reports on travellers’ activities to the authorities, however, so ifyou are planning anything illegal (such as crossing from Kashgar to Tibet), this is not the place to discuss it.
