The Museum of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. was built in 1953, with typically Russian anti Uygur style.That time as everybody known was the 14 years after the liberation if China. We were during the socialist construction period. During this period, protecting the history relic study the long history of the Silk Road, promoting the culture exchange worldwide were important projects in Xinjiang. So the government specially designed this museum for preservation, exhibition, and restoration anti study work in Uremia, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The brand new Museum start, built in the year 2000, and opened in the year 2004. The
design and exhibits added modern atmosphere, rich in the characteristics of ethnic architecture.
At the entrance, there are two special exhibits greeting us. The first one is the thinlargest Iron-Meteorite in the world 2.42-meter long 1.85meters wide ,and 1.37mitem high. Its weight is 30 tons. It was found in Jinhe County in 1898. In the year 1965, it was transported by a big truck to Urumqi and spent ! month on the way. The second one is natured green jade stone from Hotan city, which weights 7 tons, showing us that Xinjiang is famous for the ade hometown.
The new museum has 17,300 square meters in area, including three floors with exhibition space of over 14, 000 square meters. It can hold 6 big or medium sized exhibitions at the same time. Ever since its establishment, workers on cultural relics and scientific excavation of key ancient graves have attained a series of important scientific research results. The museum now houses several thousand pieces of unusable cultured. Xinjiang, known as “Western Region” in history, has an extensive area and a long history. It is a place where the people of many nationalities have been working living and reproducing since very ancient ages. It is the most important section of the ancient Silk Road, endowed with large quantities of cultural relics and historical sites underground as well as above ground. As a result of the region’ s dry climate characterized by scarceprecipitation, drought anti sand storms, all kinds of relics here from large ones like.
