The Southern Mountain pastureland is 75 kilometers from Urumqi, is a branch of Tianshan Mountain chains located to tile south of the city, hence people called this part of Tianshan Mountain “Southern Mountain.”
About 1 hour ride we can enjoy tile view of farmland and villages at tile mouth of the valley. The elevation around the Southern Mountain is 1600 meters average. It is Cool in the summer and could be tile nearest summer resort to the city.
Also here is famous for the typically Kazak people’s life style in their summer pasture. Every year, when spring comes here, it is the happy season for the Kazak people to take their sheep flocks and the family belongings to spend their summer time here. In the later autumn, they will move all of them to their winter settlements. They keeping their life style for nearly 2000 years, it attracted all of the tourists here to find their long history and their unique culture style here. Also you can visit their special home”
Yurt , take a seat inside and taste their special drink: “Milk Tea”. You also can try to sleeping inside the yurt for one or two days if you have enough time.
Except their unique life style, the special recreations to celebrating their spring festival are worth to be mentioned. They called their spring festival “Nawruz”. The most interesting programs are: “Girl Chase”, “Goat Snatching”, and “Horse Racing”. Also on the grass land, they have another kind of way to let everybody remember their long history, which is called “Akeng”s singing and story telling.
When you take a farther walking into one of the deep valleys of the Southern Mountain, you will find the waterfall in the valley called Baiyanggou Valley. Walking in the valley along a stream, you can enjoy the green hills and clear water as much, as you like. When you’re getting nearer to the end of the valley, suddenly you’ll hear the thunders of water falling,
reverberating in the valley. Following the sound and get near to it, you will see white mist rising over there and a waterfall, falling directly and powerfully from the right side of a cliff with a height of 38 meters. The waterfall is poming into the small pool, splashing sprays and mist, and always has a rainbow reflecting under the sunshine. It is the best
place for the photograph.
The formation of the materials was begun from two million year ago. At that time, a break activity took place again in the region of Tianshan Mountains, the western side of the break raised, and the eastern side lowered , so a valley formed. About two million years of
erosion passed until the present Valley of Baiyanggou fonded. During the course of erosion, because the rock–Walls of the western side of the break was rather solid, they couldn’t be eroded easily, while the rocks of the easel side was rather soft and fragmental and easy to’ be eroded away, the difference of height between them was getting more and more. In the course of time, the present waterfall has gradually been formed, and it becomes that natural place for us to recuperate and go sight-seeing.
