Accommodat
ion on Wutaishan, one of the five Chinese sacred Buddhist mountains, is mainly centered around the small village of Taihuai. There are a number of hotels here, although they do not always have permits for accepting foreigners. Prices for the fairly limited facilities vary throughout the year, many in the peak seasons of July and August are over 30-40% of their ordinary room price. Many of the hotels here also are only open in the warmer months, from March until around September. For budget travellers the Arts and Crafts Hotel (Gongyi meishu zhaodaisuo, Tel: 0350-6542531) at 25 Taiping jie is one of the cheapest options, with dorm beds for as low as RMB20. The Yuejin Hotel (Yuejin zhaodaisuo, Tel: 0350-6542586) at 32 Yingfang beijie offers relatively cheap doubles with a bath for RMB100, although this is normally only open in the peak season. Rooms here are clean and all lead on to a nice courtyard. Final recommendations for cheap rooms is in the Honglou Hotel (Honglou binguan, Tel: 0350-6542520), that is located near to the Qingshui River (Qingshui he). There is very little at the mid range, since most of those classified above almost fall into this. Most of the luxury hotels lie in the south of the village. Of these, the Qixiangge Guesthouse (Qixiangge binguan, Tel: 0350-6542400) enjoys a good location and peaceful environs at the foot of the mountain, near to the Nanshan Monastery and the long distance bus station. This hotel has nicely furnished doubles for around RMB400. The Yindu Hotel, also in Taihuai, is of worse location, although the almost half price rooms should certainly be tempting. Two kilometers south of Taihuai, along the main road, you will find the Friendship Hotel (Youyi binguan, Tel: 0350-6542678) and the Yunfeng Hotel (Yunfeng binguan, normally only open between March and September). Both of these offer complete facilities, although with western prices to match.
