The Baxian Gong (also known as Baxian an), at the centre of a shabby area outside the East Gate, is the only Taoist temple in Xi’an, home to around hundred monks and nuns. Containing an interesting collection of steles including pictures of local scenic areas and copies of complex ancient medical diagrams of the human body, the temple is the setting for a popular religious festival on the first and fifteenth day of every lunar month. However, it is probably of most interest to visitors for the antique market that takes place out- side every Wednesday and Sunday (see “Shopping” below).
