The Small Goose Pagoda and the Daxingshan Si the Xiaoyan Ta (Small Goose Pagoda; daily 8am 6pm; RMB10) is southwest of the South Gate onYouyi Lu - from the train station take bus #603 or #14 and I get off at the crossroads with Chang’an Lu. A 45-meter-tall, delicate construction, founded in the Tang dynasty in 707 to store sutras brought back from India, the pagoda sits in what remains of the Jianfu Si. Two of the pagoda’s original fifteen stories were damaged in an earthquake, leaving a rather abrupt jagged top to the roof, to which you can ascend for an extra RMB10 for a view of the city. A shop at the back of the complex sells Shaanxi folk arts.
