Located near Sancha River 47 kilometers from Jinghong, “Wild Elephant Valley” Nature Reserve Zone is a paradise for wild elephants, buffaloes, rhesus monkeys and peacocks and well worth a visit.

Xishuangbanna is also home to the Daizu ethnic minority group. Under the shelter of fernleaf hedge bamboo, bamboo houses are raised on stilts. It is a good idea to take a walk or cycle ride outside the main towns and out into the villages, to catch a glimpse of this unique method of housing. Ganlanba is a good spot to experience some of Xishuangbanna’s cultural wealth, home to a good National Minorities Park.

The countryside and towns here are dotted with numerous pagodas and temples and Buddhist music and readings fill the air around the province. The Temples here are a marriage of Southeast Asian characteristics and Dai cultural styles. Flying Dragon White Pagoda is a classic example.
