The train station is in the far south of town, a long way fiTom anything inter- esting. Bus #1 goes from the station, up the east fork of Yan’an’sY-shape; bus #2 travels up the west fork, past the Yah’an Binguan and tine nmsemn. A few taxis, with a RMB5 minimum fare, also cruise the streets. Long-distance buses, which are much faster than the train, arrive either at the train-station c0n- course or the bus station, about 1km east of the town centre. A service from Linfen in Shanxi and Ynlin in the north, close to tine border with Inner Mongolia, also arrives here.
To move on to ii’an, there are two daily trains, one in the morning and, more popular, one in file evening (#4762; 8hr; RMB76). Hard-sleeper tickets are so]d only from the first window of the station ticket office (officially daily 6-7am, 3.30-5pm & 8-9.30pm, but they’re often closed). Ifyou arrived from Xi’an by train or are heading for ii’an for the first time, consider getting the bus, as the views of’loess and cave dwellings en route are incredible. Express services to Xl’an leave from the bus station at 9.15am and noon (6hr;RMB69).
