Yangzhou is a rather expensive place to stay unless you can get a room in the Hongqiao, the guesthouse of Yangzhou Normal University, or want to stay east of the centre at the Dongyuan.
Dongyuan 25 Lixin Lu, close to the corner of Jiangdu Bei Lu 0514/7233003, 7221705. Slightly remote, out in the east of the city, but bus #12 from the centre of town stops right outside. Quiet, decent-quality rooms at reasonably prices.
Hongqiao Yangzhou Normal University campus 0514/7365275. t’s just south of the entrance to Shou Xihu Park: from the West bus station, take bus #3 to the corner of Yanfu Lu and Huaihai Lu; from the East bus station, take bus #1 to the ter- minus, then take a right onto Huaihai Lu. Head a little way north and turn onto Dahongqiao Lu, which is the first left north of Yanfa Lu; once you’ve walked over the large stone bridge, take the first left again, then the first right through the main gate. The spartan but clean doubles here are among the best deals in town.
Qionghua 1 Pifang Lu, on the corner with Xuningmen Lu. 0514/7811321 ext 8811, 7812079. The only place within walking dis- tance (about 20min) of the bus station. Fairly smart, good-value singles and doubles.
shita 18 Shita Lu 0514/7344467, 7314125. Just west of Huaihai Lu, the Shita offers very smart and comfortable rooms; on bus routes #7 and #13 from the bus station.
Xiyuan 1 Fengle Shang Jie 0514/7344888, 7233870. In large grounds located just north of the museum on Yanfu Xi Lu, this hotel has a wide range of rooms and is very convenient for the sights. Various travel agents have their offices here.
