Yinchuan HistoryBeing one of the oldest known irrigated areas in Yinchuan Ningxia. It has a long history of diverting water from the Yellow River and for irrigation. As far back as some 2000 years ago, the people in this area had taken advantage of the unique natural condutions to dig canals to divert the water into electronic farmland. There are crisscrossed irrigation channels, the fertile soil, high yield rice and wheat, delicious and sweet water-melone and fruit on the Yinchuan Plan. These make the Yinchuan Plain known as “the lush southern-type fields in the northern frontier; land teeming with fish and rice”. The “five treasures” of Ningxia–fructus lycil, licorice roots, Helan stones, Tibet lambskins and blace moss–are famous both at home and abroad.

With a long history, Ningxia has many well-known historical interest places for sightseeing tourists, such as Hai Bao Pagoda, Jade Emperor pavilion, the Western Xia Maosoleums, Gunzhong Pass in the Helan Mountains, the Chengtian Monastery Pagoda, Tongxin Moaque, One Hundred and Eight Dagobas, the Xumishan Grottoes, Shaotou and the ruins of the ancient Great Wall.
