
Dennis (pronounced Denny’s) shopping mall has about 10 floors of everything you might ever want to buy or need. Fast food, both Western and Chinese, places to eat are here. Prices tend to be more reasonable than the KIngbird Mall. Food, fresh and canned, can be purchased as well. We would often shop here. Many fine specialty shops abound in Zhengzhou. They feature most of the fine names known in the West. Clothes, furniture, you name it, they have it. Mostly frequented by middle and upper class Chinese. They are fun to browse in. Many of the shops have someone who can speak English. However we always take a student.Thanks to its strategic geographical location, Zhengzhou has long been a major transport hub along the Yellow River. Despite this favorable situation, the retail industry here is relatively weak, due largely to low consumption rates. The local government today, seem to have made up their minds to change this and more favorable policies for consumers and businesses are emerging in an attempt to make the market more buoyant.
In terms of traditional goods, reproduction Tang porcelain figures, jade and lacquerware are all made here and calligraphy and paintings are also popular. This is a good place to buy paint equipment and tools including writing brushes, inkstones and bars. The Zhengzhou Jade Carving Factory cut pretty stones and prices are usually reasonable- if you bargain hard first. The Friendship Store here is on Erqi Road.
Shopping The Friendship Store is on Erqi Lu, at the north end of Renmin Park. There are also a few pricey antique stores at the eastern end of Jinshui Lu.
