zhongyue templeThe largest existing complex of ancient buildings among the Five Sacred Mountains of China, also known as the little imperial Palace.

Located at the southern foot of the Huanggai Peak 4 kilometers east of Dengfeng town area and 70 kilometers southwest of Zhengzhou urban districts, the temple is the earliest base of Taoism in the central China. It was first built in the Qin Dynasty, renamed as todays in the Northern Wei Dynasty, and rebuilt or expanded throughout the following dynasties. From the Gate of China to the Main Hall of the Central Mountain, Bedroom Hall and Imperial Book Building, the temple has totally 11 courtyards along the central north-south axial line, lasting over 1,000 meters. Within an area of more than 100,000 square meters, it possesses over 400 rooms and 3,000 ancient cypresses. The tablets of Wei and Tang Dynasties and the 4 figures of cast iron of the Song Dynasty preserved here are of great historical value. In each lunar year, from March 5 to 15 and October 5 to 15, traditional temple fairs are held here, attracting more and more tourists.
