The former county of Zhuhai Was established in 1953,and was upgraded to a city in 1979.In 1980,it became one of the first special economic zones in China.It has under its jurisdiction three administrative districts,namely,Xiangzhou,Jinwan and Doumen,and five economic development zones,namely,the Zhuhai State-Level New-and Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone,Zhuhai Free Trade Zone,Zhuhai Harbor Industrial Zone,Hengqin Economic Development Zone and Wanshan Marine Development Experimental Zone.It had a population of 1,233,500 in 2002.Today,Zhuhai has evolved from small border villages into a rapidly growing beautiful coastal city with modem economic development zones.
Being a new coastal & garden-style city for leisure and holiday, Zhuhai is considered as a dazzlingh China Sea. Located at the outlet of Pearl River, connected with Macau bv land pearl at the coast of Soutand linked up with Hong Kong by water, it is one of the five special economic zones in China. A International Motor Circuit has also been built in Zhuhai for the International Car Race annually. A large amount of scenic spots are distributed in the city. such as the New Yuan Ming Palace, the scenic area of Four Buddhism Mountains, the amusement park of Pearl Land, Jiuzhou Town, the statue of Fisher’s Girl, the Park of Bamboo God, the Golden Beach, water region around Baiteng Lakeetc. Besides, the aquarium, Ocean Park, sightseeing cable way at Banzhang Hill are being prepared. The Zhuhai Airport in international standard link up over 20 cities in the country by air, the Lingdingyang Bridge to Hong Kong, Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway and Highway will be in construction right now.
